Chapter 1: Safety

1.1: Safety Instructions

Owner of the equipment is responsible for providing the users of the equipment with all warnings and instructions.

Read all instructions before use.
ALL PRODUCTS
Warning: Health-related injuries may result from incorrect or excessive use of exercise equipment. Life Fitness STRONGLY recommends seeing a physician for a complete medical exam before undertaking an exercise program, particularly if the user has a family history of high blood pressure or heart disease, is over the age of 45, smokes, has high cholesterol, is obese, or has not exercised regularly in the past year. If, at any time while exercising, the user experiences faintness, dizziness, pain, or shortness of breath, he or she must stop immediately.
Caution: Any changes or modifications to this equipment could void the product warranty.
Warning: Keep batteries out of reach of children.

Some chest straps may contain a removable battery.

  • Swallowing may lead to serious injury in as little as 2 hours or death, due to chemical burns and potential perforation of the esophagus.
  • If you suspect your child has swallowed a battery, immediately call your local poison control for fast, expert advice.
  • Examine devices and make sure the battery compartment is correctly secured, e.g. that the screw or other mechanical fastener is tightened. Do not use if compartment is not secure.
  • Dispose of used button batteries immediately and safely. Flat batteries can still be dangerous.
  • Tell others about the risk associated with button batteries and how to keep their children safe.
Warning: To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury, it is imperative to connect each product to a properly grounded electrical outlet.
Warning: Heart rate monitoring systems may be inaccurate. Over exercising may result in serious injury or death. If you feel faint, stop exercising immediately.
Danger: To reduce the risk of electrical shock or injury from moving parts, always unplug product before cleaning or attempting any maintenance activity.
  • Life Fitness does not warrant nor guarantee that component parts used in the manufacture of products offered under the Life Fitness brand are latex-free. Users of these products must take all necessary precautions to prevent accidental contact that could lead to an adverse latex reaction.
  • Never operate the product if it has a damaged power cord or electrical plug, or if it has been dropped, damaged, or even partially immersed in water. Contact Customer Support Services.
  • Position the product so that the power cord plug to the wall is accessible to the user. Make sure that the power cord is not knotted or twisted and that it is not trapped under any equipment or other objects.
  • If the electrical supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an authorized service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard.
  • Always follow the console instructions for proper operation.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge unless they have supervision or been given instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • This equipment is not intended for use by children. Keep children under the age of 14 away from the machine.
  • Do not use this product outdoors, near swimming pools or in areas of high humidity.
  • Never operate the product with the air openings blocked. Keep air openings free of lint, hair, or any other obstructing material.
  • Never insert objects into any opening in these products. If an object should drop inside, turn off the power, unplug the power cord from the outlet, and carefully retrieve it. If the item cannot be reached, contact Customer Support Services.
  • Never place liquids of any type directly on the unit, except in an accessory tray or holder. Containers with lids are recommended.
  • Do not use these products in bare feet. Always wear shoes. Wear shoes with rubber or high-traction soles. Do not use shoes with heels, leather soles, cleats or spikes. Make sure no stones are embedded in the soles.
  • Keep all loose clothing, shoelaces, and towels away from moving parts.
  • Do not reach into, or underneath, the unit or tip it on its side during operation.
  • Do not allow other people to interfere in any way with the user or equipment during a workout.
  • Allow LCD consoles to “normalize” with respect to temperature for one hour before plugging the unit in and using.
  • Use these products for their intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments that have not been recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Free standing equipment shall be positioned on a flat, stable and horizontal base.
  • Read all warnings on each product prior to starting a workout.
  • If warnings are missing or damaged, please contact Customer Support Services immediately for replacement warning labels. Warning labels are shipped with every product and should be installed before product is used. Life Fitness is not responsible for missing or damaged warning labels.
TREADMILL
Caution: Risk of injury to persons – to avoid injury, use extreme caution when stepping onto or off of a moving belt. Read assembly instruction manual before using.
Warning: Keep the area 6.5 ft. / 2 m by 3 ft. / 0.9 m behind the treadmill clear of any obstructions, including walls, furniture, and other equipment. Contact Customer Support Services for an optional longer power cord if necessary.
Warning: Be sure the emergency stop lanyard is clipped to the user and in proper position on the treadmill before beginning any workout.
Warning: The belt centering adjustment must be performed if the belt is not between the marks indicating the maximum allowed lateral positions. Refer to Treadmill Assembly Instructions.

  • When the product is not in use, Life Fitness recommends unplugging the product. Disconnect from the electrical outlet when not in use, and before putting on or taking off parts. To disconnect, turn power OFF at the ON/OFF switch, then remove plug from electrical outlet.
  • Keep the power cord away from heated surfaces. Do not pull the equipment by the power cord or use the cord as a handle. Do not run the power cord on the floor under or along the side of the treadmill.
  • Handrails may be held to enhance stability as needed, but are not for continuous use.
  • Never mount or dismount the treadmill while the running belt is moving. Use the handrails whenever additional stability is required. In case of an emergency, such as tripping, grasp the handrails, and place the feet on the side platforms.
  • Never walk or jog backwards on the treadmill.
  • Do not use this product in areas where aerosol spray products are being used or where oxygen is being administered. Such substances create the danger of combustion and explosion.
  • In conformity with the European Union Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, this equipment unloaded runs at sound pressure levels below 70 dB (A) at the average operating speed of 12 km/hr (commercial units) and 8 km/hr (home units). Noise emission under load is higher than without load.
LIFECYCLE® EXERCISE BIKES
Warning: Allow a distance of 16 in. / 41 cm between the widest part of the bike and other objects on either side. Provide at least 3 ft. / 0.9 m between the front or rear of the bike to any other objects and 2 ft. / 0.6 m in the direction the equipment is accessed from.

  • Do not stand or sit on plastic shrouds.
  • Use caution when mounting or dismounting the bike. Use the stationary handlebar whenever additional stability is required.
CROSS-TRAINER
Warning: Ensure that there is at least 1 ft. / 0.3 m of clearance in front of the Cross-Trainer and at least 2 ft. / 0.6 m on the side.
Warning: The Cross-Trainer is not equipped with a free-wheeling feature. Therefore, the product cannot be stopped immediately.

  • Do not stand or sit on the rear plastic covers of the Cross-Trainer.
  • Do not stand on center tube of the Cross-Trainer.
  • The individual human power required to perform an exercise may be different than the mechanical power displayed on the Cross-Trainer.
  • Use caution when mounting or dismounting the Cross-Trainer. Before mounting, use the moving arms to bring the pedal nearest to you to the lowest position. Use the stationary handlebars whenever additional stability is required. While exercising, hold onto the moving arms.
  • Never face backward while using the Cross-Trainer.

1.2: Immobilization Method - Treadmill Only

The purpose of immobilizing the unit is to prevent unauthorized use. The system causes immobilization of the unit when activated.
  1. Tap the LANGUAGE icon on the ATTRACT SCREEN to access the SELECT LANGUAGE screen. (Language Icon position may vary on consoles.)
  2. Tap the lower part of the SELECT LANGUAGEscreen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, and Lower-Right.
  3. Tap the Immobilize Unit icon. Enabled will be displayed.

  4. Tap the exit icon X to exit System Options.
  5. Unit will reboot.
  6. UNIT IMMOBILIZED BY MANAGER message appears on screen.
  7. Tap the upper part of the ATTRACT SCREEN in the following sequence: Upper-Left, Upper-Right, Upper-Left, and Upper-Right to enter SYSTEM OPTIONS.
  8. Tap the Immobilize Unit icon to disable.

Chapter 2: Introduction

2.1: Using this Manual

Descriptions using the words "left" and "right" refer to the orientation of a user using the product, facing the console. "Front" is the area of the product with the console. The "Rear" of the product is behind the user.

Chapter 3: Maintenance

3.1: Preventive Maintenance Tips

Note: Safety of the equipment can be maintained only if the equipment is examined regularly for damage or wear. Keep the equipment out of use until defective parts are repaired or replaced. Pay special attention to parts that are subject to wear, as outlined below.

The following preventive maintenance tips will keep the product operating at peak performance:

  • Locate the product in a cool, dry place.
  • Clean the display console and all exterior surfaces with an approved or compatible cleaner (see Approved and Compatible Cleaners) and a microfiber cloth.
  • Long fingernails may damage or scratch the surface of the console; use the pad of the finger to press the selection buttons on the console.

3.2: Approved and Compatible Cleaners

Two preferred cleaners have been approved by reliability experts: PureGreen 24 and Gym Wipes. Both cleaners will safely and effectively remove dirt, grime and sweat from equipment. PureGreen 24 and the Antibacterial Force formula of Gym Wipes are both disinfectants that are effective against MRSA and H1N1.

PureGreen 24 is available in a spray which is convenient for gym staff to use. Apply the spray to a microfiber cloth and wipe down the equipment. Use PureGreen 24 on the equipment for at least 2 minutes for general disinfection purposes and at least 10 minutes for fungus and viral control.

Gym Wipes are large, durable pre-moistened wipes to use on the equipment before and after workouts. Use Gym Wipes on the equipment for at least 2 minutes for general disinfection purposes.

Mild soap and water or a mild non-abrasive household cleaner can also be used to clean the display and all exterior surfaces. Use a soft microfiber cloth only. Apply the cleaner to the microfiber cloth before cleaning. DO NOT use ammonia or acid based cleaners. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners. DO NOT use paper towels. DO NOT apply cleaners directly to the equipment surfaces.

3.3: Preventive Maintenance Schedule

Main Display Console and Center Console

Hardware     Inspect for loose or damaged hardware. Replace if necessary. Reapply Loctite 242/243 as needed. Tighten torque bolts to recommended specifications.

Chapter 4: Theory of Operation

4.1: Main Board, Tablet PCBA (PCB-001)

Theory of Operation:
This is the main interconnection board that interfaces to the various PCBA’s in the console. There is a i.MX8M quad-core processor on this board that:
  • Hosts the Android operating system.
  • Runs various applications including the LF GUI application and various multimedia apps of Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and others.
  • Drives the TDM’s (Touch Display Module) display.
  • Reads the TDM’s embedded capacitive touch interface.
  • Services USB, Digital Tuner boards, and wireless devices.
  • Interfaces to secondary Fitcore PCBA that runs the workout logic and interfaces directly with base functions.
Note: This board is considered not serviceable due to the inability to program certain data (QR code, Console serial number, etc) in the field. If this board is determined to be faulty, the entire console should be replaced.
Functions/Connectors:
CN1 – WLAN / BT PCIe Slot Contains power and communication to the WLAN / BT module.
CN2 – LVDS Contains video signals to the Tread TDM.
CON2 – ANFC Contains +5 VDC power and I2C communication.
CON5 – Wireless Qi Charger Contains +12 VDC power and UART communication to the wireless charger module.
CON6 – USB (Treadmill touch panel) Contains USB signals (+5VDC and D+/D-) to treadmill TDM.
CON8 – Backlight Contains +12 VDC power for the treadmill TDM.
CON10 – Audio Out Contains Audio R / L output to headphone jack and a headphone detect circuit.
CON11 – IR Contains TTL drive output(s) for IR remote control of connected STB's. STB-SYNC uses the 12 VDC configuration (Pins 1 and 3) and STB connector kit uses the 3.3 VDC configuration (Pins 2 and 3).
CON12 – i.MX8 debug UART For development and debug of i.MX8 processor. Not used in console.
CON13 – ANT+ Contains +3.3 VDC power and UART to ANT+ Module.
CON15 – DTB Contains +12 VDC power and UART to the integrated Digital Tuner Board (DTB).

CON16 – Fitcore Communication Contains USB signals (D+ / D-), reset lines, and CSAFE audio input.
CON17 – Vsys Power Contains 24 VDC base power passed through the Fitcore.
CON18 – USB (RFID) Contains USB signals (+5 VDC and D+/D-) to optional RFID module.
J6 – Ethernet 10/100/1000 RJ-45 port for wired internet connection.
J7 – microSD Card slot used for software recovery. Requires a formatted micro SD card.
J8 – USB (User Type-A) Contains USB signals (+5 VDC and D+/D-) to user accessible USB port at console front.
J10 – HDMI (STB) Contains audio and video from connected STB (STB connector kit or STB-SYNC).
J11 – HDMI (DTB) Contains audio and video from connected digital tuner board (DTB).
J13 – ADB Debug Used for debug only.
Troubleshooting tips:

Make sure that all the connectors are properly seated and that there are no pinched cables between any of these connections.

In normal operation, an amber LED stays solid near the HDMI input connectors when an HDMI cable is detected and connected at either J10 or J11.

  • J10 – D51 LED is illuminated to indicate a STB is connected correctly.
  • J11 – D53 LED is illuminated to indicate a Digital Tuner Board is connected correctly.

In normal operation, an amber LED stays solid near the WLAN / BT module at D87 to indicate the WLAN / BT module at CN1 is connected and operational.

For display, backlight, or touch functional issues, check that the cables connected to the tablet are fully seated and check the JP6 jumper configuration is set correctly.

4.2: Fitcore PCBA (PCB-002)

Theory of Operation:
This is the PCBA that runs the workout logic and interfaces directly with base functions. It provides the Main board with power from the connected base and communicates the base functions to the Main board. There are two processors on this board. One is an i.MX8 mini processor that runs the workout logic, reads keypad inputs, and services the USB communication to the Main board and CSAFE. The other processor is a Kinetis K17 MCU that does the Life Pulse and Polar processing.
Note: This board is considered not serviceable due to the inability to program certain data (QR code, Console serial number, etc) in the field. If this board is determined to be faulty, the entire console should be replaced.
Functions/Connectors:
P1 – Main Board (Tablet) Communication Contains USB based communication with the main board as well as analog audio from the CSAFE connector (MyE) and GPIO's for Reset lines.
P2 – Main Board Power Relays Vsys (+24 VDC) to the main board.
P4 – CSAFE interface Provides CSAFE communication, Vcardio, and MyE audio support to an externally exposed interface, Test mode enable signal (active low).
P5 - JTAG
P6 LifePulse electrode signals for alternative HR Solution.
P7 Fitcore Programing port (USB)
P8 – Base Power Vsys (+24 VDC) from power brick mounted within the base and 12 VDC ESS BASE (IN / OUT).
P9 - Base Signal Base control switches, Reed switch / Magnet Emergency Stop Switch (ESS) feedback, Life Pulse, Keypad LED's, and Center Console touch (I2C).
P10 – Life Fitness LED Logo Assembly +5 VDC, PWM drive, and PWM return for driving array of digital LED's and receiving the LED feedback for diagnostic purposes.
P12 – Base COM Contains communication via (RS-485) to Symbio Tread and Non-tread bases.
P13 - Center Console Display Interface MIPI display signals
P17 – Ethernet Interface For Development only. Not populated.
P20 IMX8 A-CORE debug port.
P24 – Polar Contains support for the Polar Heart Rate board, power and communication.
P25 IMX8 M-CORE Debug port and alternative HR solution power and Signal.
Troubleshooting tips:

Make sure that all the connectors are properly seated and that there are no pinched cables between base and console as well as console B2B internal connections.

In normal operation verify the buzzer / speaker beep is heard and LED 1 blinks which indicate there is COM between IMX8 and Kinetis.

4.3: WLAN / Bluetooth Board (PCB-003)

Theory of Operation:
The WLAN / Bluetooth board is an off-the-shelf module that provides WLAN 2.4GHz and 5GHz band coverage as well as Bluetooth 5.0 support. The module resides on the Main Board (Tablet PCBA) and interfaces to 2 wireless antennas that are placed along the edges of the Symbio console for providing optimal signal coverage. The WLAN portion of the module is used to provide wireless Internet to the Symbio console for performing various functions such as streaming multimedia content via built-in apps (such as Netflix, Hulu, etc.) as well as linking the product to the service portal and downloading software updates. The module supports up to 802.11ac speeds to provide adequate bandwidth for streaming HD content. The Bluetooth portion of the module support specific Bluetooth classic and BLE features. It provides connectivity to local user devices within proximity including heartrate chest straps, Bluetooth audio headphones, Smartphones, and Smartwatches. Each of these peripheral device types has its own use and function as well as pairing method.

Profiles/Protocols Supported: A2DP, AVRCP, BMS, DIS, FTMS, and HRP.

Note: We do not support the latest Bluetooth LE-Audio profile as this is implemented into Bluetooth 5.2 standard.
Functions/Connectors:
DIMM M.2 Form factor connector to main board: carries the power supplies for the WLAN / Bluetooth interfaces, the USB and UART communication interfaces for WLAN and Bluetooth respectively, and GPIO for various tasks. Connects to CN1 and is surface mounted to the main board.
ANT0 5 GHz Antenna u.FL port. Antenna connects to this port.
ANT1 2.4 GHz Antenna u.FL port. Antenna connects to this port.

4.4: ANFC Board (PCB-004)

Theory of Operation:
The ANFC board is a Gymkit enabled module that allows for wireless communication between various NFC enabled user devices and the Symbio console. When the user device (with NFC and Bluetooth enabled) is presented within proximity of the ANFC board, communication starts and acts as the handshake and pairing method to the internal Bluetooth module. Once the handshake occurs, the user device has access to their Life Fitness Halo App and various Gymkit enabled functions / features. The types of user devices vary between mobile phones, Smart Watches (both non-Gymkit and Gymkit enabled), and other various NFC / Bluetooth enabled devices. A secondary function is to allow users to log in using a passive MIFARE RFID card, tag, or fob. The Unique ID Number (UIN) is read from the passive tag and if associated to a Halo account, will log the user into their account.
Functions/Connectors:

P1 - Connector to the main board: carries the I2C communication, 5 VDC power and GPIO for reset.

Troubleshooting tips:
Use the Service Tab in System Options to see if the NFC module is detected. If not, check cable connections.

4.5: ANT+ Board (PCB-005)

Theory of Operation:
The ANT+ board is an off-the-shelf ANT+ receiver board from North Pole Engineering, Inc. The ANT+ board is designed to support ANT+ heartrate chest straps.
Functions/Connectors:

P1 - Connector to the Main Board: carries the UART communication and 3.3 VDC power.

Troubleshooting tips:
  • Use the Service Tab in System Options to see if the ANT+ module is detected.
  • Make sure that the connectors are properly seated at the ANT+ board and main board. Make sure the cable is not pinched or severed. Try a different, known good, cable.

4.6: Polar Board (PCB-006)

Theory of Operation:
The Polar board is an off-the-shelf RE-07 telemetry receiver board from Polar, Inc. It receives heart rate pulses from the user’s telemetry chest strap. The pulses may be coded or uncoded depending on the type of telemetry strap. If coded, the chest strap must first be within ~25” of the Polar RE-07 receiver (which is centered directly below the LCD display). Once the HR is displayed, the code is “locked in” and the user’s chest strap or simulator can be moved back to ~35”. Uncoded chest straps have the same reception range (~35”).
Functions/Connectors:
Connector to Fitcore board
Contains +3.3 VDC and ground from the Fitcore board and telemetry pulse signal to Fitcore board.
Troubleshooting tips:
  • Run Heartrate Test under the System Options System Test menu. Make sure that the connectors are properly seated at the main board and at the Polar board. Make sure the cable is not pinched or severed (try a different, known good, cable).
  • In a workout, press the right toggle button so that the Heart Rate LED is lit. Set a Polar simulator to between 60 - 200 BPM and place it in the reading rack. Observe the HR value changes up or down as the heart rate setting on the simulator is changed.
  • Polar reception range is significantly reduced by any metal. Be sure there are no metal devices (cell phone, tablet, iPod, Kindle, etc) resting against the module. Remove device entirely to see if it is interfering. If user desires to use the device and Polar simultaneously, they must move the device to a cup holder or off to the side.

4.7: Headphone Jack Board (PCB-007)

Theory of Operation:
Audio out is provided via a headphone jack board. The headphone jack board is inside the angled, over-molded assembly and is screwed into the rear bezel. The board also has TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) devices to shunt ESD energy to the chassis. This part is easily serviceable.
Functions / Connectors:
Connector to Main Board
Contains right and left analog audio, headphone detect, and ground from the main board and shield ground to the chassis.
Headphone Jack
Contains right and left analog audio, detect, and ground.
Troubleshooting tips:
No sound Plug headphones into the headphone jack board.
Make sure that the connectors are properly seated at the headphone jack PCBA and main board.
Make sure the headphone jack cable is not pinched or severed.
Try a different, known good, cable.
Verify the audio source’s volume (Digital Tuner Board, Set-Top Box, or streaming video content) is not muted or very low.
Verify that the headphones are good.
Distorted sound When wiggling the headphone connector that is plugged into the headphone jack board, if the sound is distorted, cracks, or pops, then replace the headphone jack board.

4.8: User USB Port (PCB-008)

Theory of Operation:
A Type-A USB port is provided to the user along the bottom edge of the console, behind the door with the USB symbol, next to the headphone jack. The USB port is inside the angled, over-molded assembly and is screwed into the rear bezel. The USB port is intended for software updates, saving console logs, or charging the user’s portable device. For charging, the user must also bring the device’s charge cord. The user USB port is over-current and short circuit protected above 2.1 A. This part is easily serviced.

Troubleshooting tips:
  • Plug any USB stick into the port and the stick should blink as it the console mounts the stick. If the stick has the correctly named file at the stick’s root, it will automatically start updating the console’s software.
  • Extract logs (copied to a USB stick without the software update file) via diagnostics.
  • Plug a cord into the user USB port and then plug it into the corresponding portable device to see if it charges.

4.9: Digital Tuner Board Assembly (PCB-009)

Theory of Operation:
The Digital Tuner Board is a subsystem module that provides the Symbio console with audiovisual content received from terrestrial, satellite, or cable-based TV systems over an RF coaxial cable or Ethernet. There are three versions of RF coaxial cable DTB's (outlined below) that support specific localizations, and the correct version of DTB is installed within the console on the production assembly line. A fourth tuner version for IPTV has been developed to support the hospitality market with content delivery over Ethernet. Each tuner is assembled onto a mounting plate with respective parts to create the DTB assembly. The DTB assembly slides into the dedicated tuner slot within the Symbio console and secures in place using two screws.

*DVB-CI daughter board module is an add-on configuration to the DVB-T2/S2 HD tuner. The module integrates support for inserting a conditional-access module (CAM) for decrypting pay TV channels and is targeted for the European market. The CAM is supplied by the customer and is tied to their service provider account. This TV support model provides additional content to the cardio products in a similar fashion to how cable providers in the United States (like Xfinity) provide premium channels with their Set-Top Boxes. Over the Air content in the U.S. is available for free just like in Europe but if you want premium channels like CNN, Discovery, Food Network, etc., then you must pay for them.

Functions/Connectors:
Control / Power Connector to Main Board
Contains +12 VDC and the UART communication in a Y-cable connecting to the main board at CON15.
Audiovisual Interface to Main Board
The audiovisual interface will be an HDMI cable between the DTB and the main board and follows the HDMI standard. It will carry both audio and HD video to the main board. Connects to J11 on the main board.
RF Coaxial Input from cardio base
The cardio base has a coaxial cable that will connect to the respective tuner input. If the tuner does not have an RF input then this cable is not used.
Ethernet RJ-45 Input
Applicable to only the Pro:Idiom IPTV DTB. The CAT-6 base cable plugs into the DTB.
Ethernet Loop Through
Applicable to only the Pro:Idiom IPTV DTB. A short run of CAT-6 connects between the RJ-45 output and the Ethernet port (J6) on the main board.

4.10: STB-SYNC HDMI Extender Solution (PCB-010)

Theory of Operation:
An off the shelf two-part solution to support Set-Top Boxes (STB) with an HDMI output and IR control at a distance of up to 100 meters away. HDMI is limited in its capability to send its audiovisual signal over distances over 10 meters without amplification or alternate methods such as a balun. This is where our STB-SYNC HDMI Extender solution comes in. This solution uses two off the shelf HDMI Extender balun modules called the Transmitter and the Receiver. These modules transition HDMI into Ethernet-like traffic and then back to HDMI using a technology standard called HDBaseT. The Transmitter is integrated into a Tx kit and is packaged separately from the Symbio console and is typically installed next to the STB in a back room / closet. The Receiver is integrated into the Symbio console where the DTB is typically located and is tied down with a bracket. For every Symbio STB-SYNC console (with integrated Receiver) requires one Tx kit. The Receiver module also is supplied power from the Transmitter module over the Ethernet cable using a technology called PoE (Power over Ethernet) so there will be no power cable within the console. Note that the Receiver board is intended to be mounted upside down for easier access to the Ethernet CAT-6 cable locking tab
Note: This solution is not compatible with the SE3HD STB-SYNC solution (transmitter or receiver).

Ethernet Pass Through Cable
Optional support of wired Internet over the same CAT-6 cable. A jumper Ethernet cable plugs in between the RJ-45 on the receiver and the RJ-45 (J6) on the main board.
HDBaseT
Interface that links the Transmitter and Receiver together using the existing pre-wired CAT-6 base cable. Power, HDMI audio / video, IR signals, and Internet traffic are all sent over the single CAT-6 cable. This interface has status LED's that are used to verify connection with the Transmitter from the console side.
Troubleshooting tips:
Blue screen: Means that there is no HDMI source detected. Check that the integrated HDMI Receiver module is receiving power from the HDMI Transmitter by checking the HDBaseT IN port for LED status to verify connection.

If LED's on the HDMI Receiver board are not illuminated, then it is recommended to:

  • Verify the CAT-6 is plugged in at the console and the Ethernet / CAT-6 cable to the product is connected at the base.
  • Check that the HDMI Transmitter kit is properly installed.
    • HDMI Transmitter is powered ON and is verified by using the PWR LED indicator.
    • Link LED should be illuminated when the communication link between the Transmitter and Receiver is established.
Test

The transmitter has the ability to test the HDBaseT cable quality through the front panel. Press the test button on the front panel of the transmitter to start the test, the LED will display the testing results.

Button LED
Blue Blinking: The test is running properly and the button will blink 10 times during the testing process. No Light: There is no HDBaseT cable plugged in.
Red Light: There is no signal for the test to check. Blinking: There is no HDBaseT signal coming through.
  Solid Green: The HDBaseT cable is good.
  Solid Yellow: One or two HDBaseT pairs are not working, re-terminate the cable.
  Solid Red: Multiple pairs are not working. Re-terminate the cable and if the LED turns yellow or red again, replace the cable.

4.11: RFID Module (PCB-011)

Theory of Operation:
An optional off-the-shelf module that replaces the ANFC Board. The configuration requires a secondary Apple Authentication PCBA for enabling Gymkit features. The RFID Board supports many High Frequency (HF – 13.56 MHz) and Low Frequency (LF – 125/134.2 kHz) RFID tags as well as NFC peer to peer and Gymkit. The module supports almost all known RFID tag types (exception is Legic Prime) to allow the customer’s RFID infrastructure to work with our products seamlessly. When an RFID tag is brought within the proximity read range, the Unique ID Number (UIN) is read and if the UIN is tied to Halo, will log the user into their personal Halo account.

Troubleshooting tips:

Make sure that all the connectors are properly seated between the tablet PCBA and Main board.

4.12: Apple Authentication Board (PCB-012)

Theory of Operation:
An optional module that is tied to and used in conjunction with the RFID board. This Apple Authentication PCBA is needed for enabling Gymkit features with the RFID board.
Functions/Connectors:
P1 – Connector to the Main Board: carries the I2C communication, 5VDC power and GPIO for reset.
Troubleshooting tips:
This module provides the RFID console configuration with Apple Gymkit functionality. An Apple logo is displayed on the Symbio console’s attract screen when connected and functioning properly. If the Apple logo is not present and the RFID module has been verified to be operating correctly, then it is recommended to check the cable between the Main PCBA and the Apple Authentication PCBA. If Apple functions do not resume, it is recommended the Apple Authentication PCBA be replaced.

4.13: LED Logo Assembly (PCB-014)

Theory of Operation:
This is the rear mounted LED assembly that provided an illuminated Life Fitness logo. The LED assembly is controlled via the Fitcore and is configurable for color and brightness through the System Options menu within the Life Fitness App.
Functions/Connectors:
J1 – Connector to Fitcore Board: Contains the PWM signal, 5 VDC power and PWM Return.
Troubleshooting tips:
Make sure that all the connectors are properly seated at the LED Logo Assembly board and Fitcore 4 board.

4.14: HDMI Set-Top Box Connector Kit Support

Theory of Operation:
This offering uses HDMI and IR cables for STB support at proximity to the cardio equipment. The STB Connector Kit feature is also referred to as STB on the Floor solution. The HDMI and IR cables are pre-wired into all Integrity bases and is available as an add-on eternally wired kit for the Elevation bases. The Set Top Box Connector Kit allows customers the ability to connect to compatible set-top boxes (STB's) and allows the exerciser to control the STB via the on-console controls.
Flexibility

The STB Connector Kit offers a facility flexibility. Should a facilities Audio / Video (AV) provider move from unencrypted to encrypted content, the STB Connector Kit provides the facility an option other than swapping out consoles. The STB Connector Kit is also a valuable tool should a facility be using a different AV transmission standard than is supported by the in-console tuners – a facility can have a compatible STB convert the signal into HDMI® and then transmit that to the console.

Cost Effective

The STB Connector Kit is an affordable option for connecting to and controlling a STB when compared to industry alternatives. The STB Connector Kit is also more affordable than our STB Sync (STB-IPTV) solution if a facility is okay with having the STB's next to each piece of cardio equipment, instead of having the STB in a separate Server Room or Head-End Rack.

Requirements:
  • 1 STB Connector Kit required per base.
  • 1 STB per base (supplied by the customer). Compatible STB's can be found here: https://settopboxes.lifefitness.com/
  • STB's must support HDMI output and accept an IR control signal.
  • HDMI output should be set to 1080p@60 if possible or use the Auto setting.
  • IR control utilizes the Symbio console’s internal built-in IR code database. Most currently available STB's should have their IR codes captured within this database under System Options menu IPTV Settings. If a STB does not appear to be within the database, consult your Sales or Technical Sales team.
Functions/Connectors:
CON11 – IR
Contains TTL drive output(s) for IR remote control of connected STB's. STB-SYNC uses the 12V configuration (Pins 1 and 3) and STB Connector Kit uses the 3.3 V configuration (Pins 2 and 3).
J10 – HDMI (STB)
Contains audio and video from connected STB (STB Connector kit or STB-SYNC).
Troubleshooting tips:
  • If a user cannot control the connected STB, check that the correct IR code table is selected, that the IR blaster was affixed properly, and that the cable(s) are connected properly at both end points.
  • If a user sees a blue screen and no media content, check that the HDMI cable(s) is connected properly at both end points, that the STB is powered ON, and the correct 1080p video resolution is set.
  • If a user sees a black or No Signal screen with no media content, this typically means your HDMI cable is connected correctly but the STB input signal is not connected, could be loose, or the head-end is not outputting audiovisual content.

Wear an ESD grounding strap during this procedure. Connect ESD grounding strap to frame bolts or unpainted metal of frame. If ESD grounding strap is not available, touch frame bolts or unpainted metal of frame before handling any electronics.

Chapter 6: Troubleshooting

6.2: Troubleshooting - Heart Rate Reading

Malfunction Probable Cause Corrective Action
Heart rate reading is initially detected and functioning normally but then is lost. Use of personal electronic devices, such as cell phones and portable MP3 players, causes external noise interference. Remove the source of noise or reposition the exercise equipment.
Equipment is in close proximity to other sources of noise such as audio/video equipment, fans, two way radios, and high voltage/ high current power lines.
Heart rate readings are abnormally elevated. Television sets and/or antennas, cell phones, computers, cars, high voltage power lines, motor driven exercise equipment , and another heart rate transmitter within 3 ft. (0.9 m) generate electromagnetic interference. Move the product a few inches away from the probable cause, or move the probable cause a few inches away from the product, until the heart rate readings are accurate.
Heart rate reading is erratic or absent entirely. Belt transmitter electrodes are not wet enough to pick up accurate heart rate readings. Wet the belt transmitter electrodes (see The Optional Polar® Telemetry Heart Rate Chest Strap).
Belt transmitter electrodes are not laying flat against the skin. Ensure the belt transmitter electrodes are laying flat against the skin (see The Optional Polar® Telemetry Heart Rate Chest Strap).
Belt transmitter needs cleaning. Wash the belt transmitter with mild soap and water.
Belt transmitter is not within 3 ft. (0.9 m) of the heart rate receiver. Make sure the chest strap transmitter is within 3 ft. (0.9 m) of the heart rate receiver.
Polar telemetry heart rate chest strap battery is depleted. Contact Life Fitness Customer Support Services for instructions on how to have the Polar telemetry heart rate chest strap replaced.
Polar telemetry heart rate chest strap did not lock in with the heart rate receiver.

Make sure the Polar telemetry heart rate chest strap is properly attached to the user’s chest and move closer to the heart rate receiver inside the console. Wait up to 10 seconds for the heart rate to display on the console. The overall range of the heart rate strap is approximately 3 ft. (0.9 m) after it communicates with the receiver. The strap must be 1.5 - 2 ft. (0.5 - 0.6 m) away from the receiver in order to start communicating. When the display shows a heart rate value stay within 3 ft. (0.9 m).

Notes:

  1. Ensure proper adherence of the Polar telemetry heart rate chest strap to user’s chest.
  2. Ensure proper conductivity between the electrodes and user’s chest.
  3. If needed, use the Polar watch to verify chest strap’s operation.

6.3: Troubleshooting - Main Console Screen

Black screen, Console off
Probable Cause Corrective Action
No power Cycle power and check for 24 VDC at console. Listen for beeps, if console powers up, check error logs.

(If tuner LED and / or wireless charger LED on (when charging), that indicates console is getting power). See Diagnostic LED's.

Does not power up
  • Check main power connector P8.
  • Check status of PCB LED's. Are all the LED's illuminated? Fitcore Lifepulse (5 VDC), Digital Tuner Board (12 VDC), HDMI Input (5 VDC), WLAN/BT Module (3.3 VDC). See Diagnostic LED's.
  • What is state is the LCD in? Is it 100% off or is there an illuminated backlight?
Display cable Check both ends of display cable from tablet (LVDS or eDP). Reseat if necessary.

If not resolved, check backlight cable. See section below Dark main console screen (no backlight).

Tuner and charger LED's off.
  • Possible console over heating. Implement thermal mitigation steps.
  • Check for bent programming jumper on tuner ATSC-PI / DVB-T2 only. If bent, possible tuner shorted.
  • Shorted tuner can bring down console 12 VDC. Disconnect (CONN 15 on tablet) or unplug power from tuner.
  • Rare issue where LVDS not outputting after software update. Cycle power usually recovers it.
  • Check jumper JP6 (next to coin battery) on tablet. 24" / 16" screen size select. Should not be plugged in for 24" screen.
Blown 24 VDC TVS D38 on Fitcore on VSYS signal on P8 main power connector. Failed short. Replace console. Fitcore board not serviceable.
Dark main console screen (no backlight)
  • Reseat backlight cables.
  • Check jumper JP6 (next to coin battery) on tablet. 24" / 16" screen size select. Should not be plugged in for 24".
Console display not displaying full image or distorted image
  • Reseat display cable (check both ends if possible).
  • Android OS issue (memory stomp). Known issue currently being resolved via software update.
Missing pixels on screen

Bad LCD. Replace console.

Black TV window
  • Cycle power to console.
  • Check JP11 on tablet for damage.
  • Tuner / STB / open IPTV configuration not set correctly in system options.
  • check all tuner cables (power, HDMI, communication).
  • Unsupported video resolution. Life Fitness does not support 480i and 576i.
TV window displays "no signal"
  • Check coax cable and signal from cable TV provider.
  • Rescan TV channels.
LED color issues or color mismatch
  • Color commanded corrupted, cycle power to reset. If not resolved, replace LED string/logo, etc.
  • Missing or incorrect ferrite location in base.
  • Go into Diagnostics and select different LED colors. Experiment with different colors to verify functioning properly.

6.4: Troubleshooting - Center Console

Equipment is not connected to the internet. Check network connectivity in Manager’s Configuration. Use network speed test on console to verify that your facility has 2.5 Mbps of bandwidth per unit.
On-Demand Workouts / Streaming Interactive Terrains videos are lagging or choppy. Insufficient internet bandwidth. Disable On-Demand Workouts / Streaming Interactive Terrains on select number of units to reduce bandwidth strain. Refer toMinimum Download Bandwidth Requirements for specifications.
Unit requires reboot. Restart the unit. For optimal functioning, enable Nightly Reboots in Manager’s Configuration.
Poor audio quality. Weak wired headphone connection. If using wired headphones, ensure proper connectivity within headphone jack. Small adjustments in jack placement should produce crisp and clear audio.
Bluetooth pairing malfunction. Unpair and repair Bluetooth headphones with the console. Follow the prompts on screen.

6.7: Troubleshooting - Service items

Additional Service items for Treadmill and Non-Treadmill:

  • Treadmill - Incline Motor Override
  • Non-Treadmill - Pedal RPM

Access Systems Options, then access Service items by selecting System Options Service .

Front Facing Headphone Jack

If the headphone jack / port is not connected internally within the console the indicator will display Connected, and would remain displaying Connected even when plugging headphones in to the outside jack. Therefore, if the front facing headphone jack has a Connected message with no headphones plugged in, check if the cable is plugged into the jack internally within the console.

If the internal cable is disconnected from the headphone jack, Bluetooth audio also won’t be heard since the headphones take priority where it will appear the headphones are connected even though they are not.

Apple Authentication Module

If the apple authentication module is not connected internally within the console it will display No Device Connected.

Front Facing USB Port

If a USB is inserted in the front facing USB port of the console it will display Connected.

NFC Module

If the NFC module is not connected internally within the console it will display No Device Connected.

Wireless Charger

The wireless charger will show Connected enabled if it is connected and set up even without a phone on the charger. If a phone is on the wireless charger, the console will display Charging.

RFID Module

If the RFID module is not connected internally within the console it will display No Device Connected.

BLUETOOTH Module

If the Bluetooth module is not connected internally within the console it will display No Device Connected.

Ant+ Module

If the Ant+ Module is not connected internally within the console it will display No Device Connected.

6.8: Troubleshooting - Smart Lighting

The base is equipped with lighting that can be tuned On or Off, has three brightness setting, and 16 colors.
  1. Select Language icon from Attract Screen to access the Select Language screen.
  2. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!
  3. Navigate through the System Options menu to Configuration Manager .
  4. Scroll down to Smart Lighting.
  5. Toggle the Enabled button to ensure the lights are turned on.
  6. Adjust the Brightness setting to test visibility.
  7. Adjust the Color to test the light color options.

6.9: Troubleshooting - Wireless Charger

A blue LED indicator is located on the front of the wireless charger rack. Reference the table below for description and LED indicator status.

6.10: Troubleshooting - Wireless Headphones

Before connecting headphones to the console:

  1. Connect headphones to mobile device (if not already connected).
  2. Turn volume level on mobile device / headphones to maximum volume.
  3. Connect headphones to the console.

Chapter 7: Software

7.1: Update Console Software

There are three methods of performing the Symbio Console Software Update procedure:

7.1.1: Symbio Console, Offline Software Update Procedure

Required: USB Stick with minimum 4GB.
USB Installation Instructions and Updating Board Firmware via the Console.
  1. Power up the unit.
  2. Wait until the unit is properly booted to the Attract Screen.
  3. Download the Symbio Console software zip file from Product Software Release Center and extract the contents of that zip file on the top level root directory on any Windows formatted FAT32 USB stick.
    Note: Alternatively, the following article Life Fitness, Cybex Console Software from Halo Fitness Cloud shows how to download console software from Halo Fitness Cloud and extract to Root Directory of USB Stick.
  4. Insert USB stick into USB port in front panel.
    Note: Make sure the USB port spring loaded door is lifted and USB is fully seated.
  5. The console auto-detects the software package and proceeds with the installation.
  6. Update process is approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
    Base firmware will be updated during installation, if necessary.
  7. The system will return to the Attract Screen after the update completes.
    3rd party apps are installed remotely and would be installed only if the product is connected to the network.
  8. Select Language icon from Attract Screen to access the Select Language screen.
  9. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!
  10. Console Software version will appear at the top of System Options.
  11. Tap Information Software Versions: .
    • Software build version will be at the very top of the screen.
    • Android OS and Fitcore OS will be listed in the first column.

7.1.2: Symbio Console, Online Software Update Procedure

Software update initiated on console using System Options menu Software Updates section – internet connection to the console required.
  1. Select Language icon from Attract Screen to access the Select Language screen.
  2. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!
  3. Navigate through the System Options menu to Software Updates and press Update.
  4. OS image will be downloaded.
  5. APK's will be downloaded
  6. Either manually close System Options by selecting the X in the upper right corner to have the installation begin, or wait for System Options to close on its own, the installation will then begin.
  7. Remote Installation begins. Copying Data, Updating OS, Unzipping APK's, and Software Installation.
    This includes installation of 2nd party apps; Chess, Solitaire, Sudoku, Browser. 3rd party apps (Example: YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, Pandora) are downloaded remotely, which requires an internet connection.
  8. If necessary, Fitcore is programmed, which includes:
    • Uploading firmware. (approximately 1:00 minute)
    • Unzipping. (approximately 0:30 seconds)
    • Programming Linux. (approximately 2:30 minutes – bulk of which occurs at 99%)
    • Programming Lifepulse module. (approximately 4:20 minutes)
    • Shutdown dialog will briefly appear before a final reboot.
  9. System update ends on Running Man screen with spinning icon in bottom-right, followed by the Attract screen.
  10. Verify software version by tapping the Select Language icon on the bottom-right of the screen (next to the gear icon).
    The Select Language screen will appear.
  11. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!
  12. System Options will appear.
  13. Tap Information Software Versions: .
    • Software build version will be at the very top of the screen.
    • Android OS and Fitcore OS will be listed in the first column.
  14. Once network connectivity is established and the console is on the Attract screen, 3rd party apps will be installed remotely. Which ones are enabled by default are defined in Firebase but can be overwritten in Halo or in System Options.
    • Installation or uninstallation will be noted in a dialog on the Attract screen, which can be canceled, if necessary.
    • Installation or uninstallation would only occur when the console is idle.

7.1.3: Symbio Console, Online and registered to Halo Software Update Procedure

  • Software update initiated from Halo – internet connection to the console is required.
  • Halo Account with unit registered on Halo.
  1. Sign in to Halo.
  2. Extend the Software left hand navigation option and select the Remote Updates option.
  3. Within the Console Selector dropdown, select the console type that you would like to enable this Auto Update setting for.
  4. Toggle the Auto Update switch to display as On. This setting will automatically save upon changing the toggle On / Off.
    Note: Repeat steps 3 and 4 if you have multiple different console types that you'd like to apply this setting to.
  5. We highly encourage turning ON the Auto Update setting. Automatic Software Updates are set by default to perform daily at 2 AM in your facility's local time zone. Automatic Software Updates is a great way to ensure your equipment is updated on a regular basis. Software upgrades are necessary to ensure your equipment is up to date with all safety and general product fixes.

    Updates will automatically take place at 2 AM in a facility's time zone to avoid peak hours of operation at a facility. To ensure this update completes successfully, the equipment needs to be powered on, connected to the internet with sufficient bandwidth, and in an idle state in order for the update to begin.

    Updates can generally take up to 45 minutes to begin and fully complete the download process. If your equipment is not powered on and online during this update time frame, the update will take place when the equipment is first powered on and connected to the internet again thereafter.

  6. Select Language icon from Attract Screen to access the Select Language screen.
  7. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!
  8. Console Software version will appear at the top of System Options.
  9. Tap Information Software Versions: .
    • Software build version will be at the very top of the screen.
    • Android OS and Fitcore OS will be listed in the first column.

7.2: How to perform a System Recovery for the Console

If a console is deemed completely non-responsive a System Recovery can be attempted to recover proper console functionality. If the System Recover method is not successful, then the console will need to be replaced.

There are two methods to perform a System Recovery of the console:

Options of the console. If the Image is upside down or if the console is frozen, this method can be used.

7.2.1: USB Method of System Recovery

Tools Required:

  • 2 USB drives, one to recover the console, second to install console software
  • Laptop / PC
  1. Obtain the OS image ZIP file PROM_MX8_SE4.ZIP. This image zip file is provided with every upgrade package.
  2. Using a laptop or PC, unzip the PROM_MX8_SE4.ZIP file to a folder. You will have a file like this (this file name might be slightly different depending on the release): SE4_505.user.8.PND
  3. Place the unzipped file in the root directory of a clean USB drive.
  4. Power-up the console.
  5. Enter System Options and then Manufacturer’s configuration.
    Note: To enter Manufacturer’s configuration, swipe a finger back and forth within the System Options title bar until a numeric keypad is displayed. Then enter 919 and Check mark.
  6. Press the Exit Application button to get to the Android desktop.
  7. Insert the USB stick with PND image.
  8. Press the icon named System Update to start the update process.
  9. Press this SE4_505.user.8.PND file, and the console will begin updating the OS from the USB.
  10. The console will reboot after the OS update is complete.
  11. Remove the USB stick.
  12. Using a laptop or PC, copy the latest software onto the USB stick.
  13. Insert the USB stick containing the latest software and wait a few minutes. The system will check and upgrade (if necessary) the secondary software components
The console System Recovery process is complete.

7.2.2: SD Card Method of System Recovery

Tools Required:

  • USB Drive (Formatted to FAT32), to reinstall console software
  • Micro SD card (Formatted to FAT 32), use to recover the console
  • Micro SD card reader
  • Laptop / PC
  1. Obtain the OS image ZIP file PROM_MX8_SE4.ZIP. This image zip file is provided with every upgrade package.
  2. Copy the PROM_MX8_SE4.ZIP file in the root directory of a clean micro SD Card.
  3. Power down the console.
  4. Insert the micro SD card into the micro SD card slot on carrier board at the back of the console.
  5. Power-up the console and wait.
  6. The console will start the recovery process automatically.
  7. The console will then reboot after the update is complete.
  8. Using a laptop or PC, copy the latest software onto the USB stick.
  9. Insert the USB stick containing the latest software and wait a few minutes. The system will check and upgrade (if necessary) the secondary software components.
The console System Recovery process is complete.

Chapter 8: Diagnostics

8.1: Access Systems Options

  1. Select Language icon from Attract Screen to access the Select Language screen.
  2. Tap the bottom part of the Select Language screen in the following sequence: Lower-Left, Lower-Right, Lower-Left, Lower-Right.
    Note: Make sure you tap INSIDE the black square!

8.1.1: Access Motor Modules Test

  1. Access Systems Options and navigate to Service menu.
  2. Select System Test Motor Modules to display test screen.

    Motor Modules test screen will be displayed.

  3. Select a motor to test.

8.1.1.1: Incline Motor Test

  1. Select Lift (Incline motor) option for Module.
  2. Select manual option.
  3. Press Incline up key on either the bullhorn, activity zone, or the GUI, to move the incline motor up.
  • If it is unresponsive, the incline motor could be damaged.
  • If the incline motor is responsive (responds to up and down commands) there is a strong possibility that the limit switch (home switch) is damaged or disconnected.

8.1.1.2: Drive Motor Test

  1. Select Motor option for Module.
  2. Select manual option.
  3. Press Speed up key on either the bullhorn, activity zone, or the GUI, to move the striding belt and increase the speed.
  • If it is unresponsive, or there is significant noise, the drive motor could be damaged.
  • In the Actual Speed / Target Speed window verify that the speeds match. The actual speed of the walking belt will fluctuate by a minimal percentage. It should be reasonably close to the target speed. If the numbers indicated are not close to the target speed and hesitates at a much higher or lower number than selected:
    • This could indicate a damaged striding belt and deck.
      Note: Stepping on the striding belt gives a higher watt reading and could verify a worn striding belt and deck.
    • This could indicate a bad IMDB.
    • This could indicate a bad drive motor.
    • This could indicate improper infrastructure (no dedicated outlet).

8.1.1.3: How to Stop Tests

  1. Select Stop Test to end the test and bring the product back to home.
  2. Press X in the upper right corner to close Motor Modules window.
  3. Press X in the upper right corner to close System Options window.
There is a reboot of system options, Fitcore reboot request, and then the Android system restarts.

8.1.2: Enable Wireless Connectivity

  1. Access Systems Options and navigate to Service menu.
  2. Select Information Network Information .
  3. To enable Wireless Connectivity, tap Disabled button (1) under Wireless Connectivity.
  4. To connect to LFwireless, tap Add LFwireless button (2).
    If you see Can’t load parameters error (or something similar) under the Scan button (3):
    • Turn wireless connectivity off by tapping the Enabled button
    • Turn wireless connectivity back on
    • The console should then automatically connect to the LFwireless network
  5. When successfully connected, Connected: “LFwireless” – Signal:Excellent will be displayed (4).
  6. To check the connection, tap Information in the first column and then Network Information in the second column.
    • LFwireless should appear next to Wireless Connectivity (5).
    • LFconnect and LFconnect Push Notification Server both show Connected (6).
    • Under Protocols/Ports, both port 80 and port 443 show Open (7).

Workout Duration Configuration Basic; 60 Minute Maximum Set maximum workout duration limits ranging from 20-240 minutes. Advanced setup allows for setting the duration of 2 different peak times.
Pause Time 1 minute Set the maximum time during which a workout can remain in pause mode. Ranges from 1-99 minutes.
Program Timeout 30 seconds The amount of time, ranging from 20 - 255 seconds, a user can go without touching the LCD touch screen during workout setup before the unit resets and returns to the Home Screen. The user will be logged out, any changes made to language are lost and any Bluetooth devices will be disconnected.
Power Saver ON / 30 minutes When turned on, this setting allows the base and console to enter "Power Saver" mode after the selected time of inactivity.

Ranges from 0-23:59 hours. 30 minutes is the default setting.

Marathon Mode Disabled This option only applies to a Time Goal workout. It allows the user in this workout to have unlimited duration if Enabled. Time Goal workouts will adhere to the Workout Duration Configuration setting if Disabled.
Nightly Reboots OFF When turned On, the console will detect the least active time of day for the unit and automatically reboot every 24 hours at that time. This is recommended for optimal functioning of streaming services, like On-Demand Workouts, Streaming Interactive Terrains or Netflix.
On-Demand Workouts OFF This option activates complete access to the growing library of Life Fitness instructor-led classes.
Note: The library will only appear if the unit is connected to the internet. 2.5 Mbps of bandwidth per unit recommended for optimal functioning.

Cause
  • Multiple, frequent speed changes - in older software, the speed attainment timer starts with first speed change request and does not reset for subsequent speed change requests before the timer expires, therefore the equipment may be in the midst of a speed change when the timer expires, this can result in an E31.
  • Excessive mechanical drag - belt / deck / roller wear or contamination, bearing damage, debris entrapment, etc. can result in speed performance degradation.
  • Treadmill with waxless deck.
  • Extreme use - combination of high speed and / or high user weight could result in this error.
Remedy
  • Ensure that latest software is installed. Download the latest software https://www.halo.fitness/web/softwareDownload.html.
  • For Cybex R-Series treadmills with waxless deck built before 10/3/2018, install waxed deck part number 10055463-0002e
  • Inspect equipment for excessive drag, check belt and deck, steps, brake, motor and roller bearings, debris entrapment (on, in or under equipment), etc.
  • Interview staff - Determine use conditions at time of error, are or was there:
    • Multiple equipment operating on single circuit
    • Low line voltage (brownout)
    • Extreme use: heavy user and / or high speed
    • Extreme use: target speed exceeds user capability
    • Extenuating circumstances that would cause high current draw
    Note: above average current draw can result in E31 so consider any conditions that could raise current draw, cause could be related to use or environment.

  • For machines with bus dump circuit / resistor, (e.g. PowerMill and some high performance treadmills) the resistor, resistor wiring, or MDB / PTC dump circuit could be faulty.
  • High line voltage could cause this fault.
  • Excessive workout: high incline, heavy user, pushing walking belt or steps, or anything that forces motor to go faster than commanded.
  • This message is sent by the motor controller when it detects an over voltage condition. Can be due to excessive high speed load on the machine or a faulty / intermittent bus dump circuit / resistor (on PowerMills). Verify the power circuitry, advise user of maximum machine limits.
  • Reset power to the unit to see if the error repeats.

  • Check MDB LED's to ensure properly powered and communicating - replace Motor Controller if faulty (100, 101,200, 400, 500, 501, 502).
  • Check PTC LED's to ensure properly powered and communicating. See Error 21
  • Diagnose / replace MDB or PTC.
  • Ensure unit has a dedicated line and neutral.

Cause

When the SKU manager can not determine the Product Type from the SKU.

When the programmed base SKU is not recognized by the installed console software, This can happen if the console has an older software version installed, to correct this ensure the console is updated to the latest console software version.

9.24: Error 166

Condition

PTC motor encoder error.

Cause

A user was standing on the striding belt / deck during the bootup of the treadmill: The motor is calibrating itself at every power cycle. This calibration includes possible movement of the striding belt. When a user is standing on the striding belt during this calibration, this error will show up at then end of the bootup process, instructing users not to stand on the product, and then do another power cycle (reboot). The power cycle will resolve this issue.

The power switch was toggled too quickly: When toggling the treadmill power switch too fast (ON-OFF-ON), within 1 second, then this error can appear. The unit won't complete the bootup and only will show this error. To resolve this issue, turn off the power switch, wait for 10 seconds, then turn power switch back on.

Other causes:

  • Motor encoder cable is unplugged (but was connected / working during initial power-up calibration step).
  • The motor is in the wrong sector at the end of calibration.
  • The encoder is reporting an invalid sector.
  • The encoder says the motor suddenly switched directions multiple times.
  • Loss of signal from the encoder.
  • Motor running in reverse.
  • Encoder A and B lines out of phase.
  • Motor running when commanded to hold position.
  • Strobe signal is outside valid range.
Remedy
  • Turn off the power switch, wait for 10 seconds, then turn power switch back on.
  • Reconnect motor encoder cable.

9.25: Error 167

Condition

PTC (Premium Treadmill Controller) Motor Stalled Error.

Cause
  • Motor is commanded to a non-zero speed, but either does not move, or move slightly backwards.
  • Non-fatal 3 times per workout, if count exceeds 3 inside a workout it becomes fatal. Moving parts are jammed or overpowered by the user.
  • Common cases are new striding belt / deck, or a very heavy user.
Remedy
  • Turn the treadmill off, then on.
  • Check that the striding belt / front and rear rollers / drive motor move freely.
  • Make sure new striding belt and deck are broken-in correctly.

9.26: Error 168

Condition

PNC M2 actuator unplugged. Motor #2, P8 connector on PNC board.

Cause

Cross-Trainer lift error, Motor #2 actuator is unplugged.

Remedy

Cause

M2 (Motor #2) actuator is active, not moving (timer expired) and not in the home position.

Remedy

Ensure both actuator cables have no damage and are properly connected at PNC side and at the intermediate connection at bridge area.

Accum Data Read / Write Error. Emit by the Fitcore board whenever a read or write from any portion of the accum data (WSM, DataResolver) fails (ERROR).

Cause

Flash wear issue on console or faulty EEPROM on base.

Update software and if not resolved, replace console and base boards.

Replace base board.

Condition

Communications loss with Command Center detected.

Cause

Fitcore A53 co-processor communicates with Command Center (CC) on Treadmill via I2C communication bus which is made up of 3 wires connected to Fitcore on the 40 pin connecter P9. The 3 wires connected are: CC enable, I2C serial data line, and I2C clock line. The A53 "turns on" CC via the CC enable line. CC sends touch events, in response to user's interaction with the screen, to the A53 over I2C bus which is made up of the I2C serial data line and I2C clock line. Depending on which signal breaks, CC will appear to be working until user touches the screen, or CC's LCD screen will be blank. A break in any of these three lines will render CC inoperable.

Comms loss detection at boot up:Break in I2C enable or I2C clock, A53 will detect and flag as an error. The LCD on command center will remain blank.

Comms loss detection during run time: Break in either CC enable line or I2C clock line will be detected and will be flagged as an error. If the break is in the CC enable line, the CC's LCD display will appear to flicker. Break solely in I2C data line can't be detected, CC will be unresponsive to user's screen touches.

The error is no-fatal type as it does not impede unit operation, the error may be displayed on console screen temporarily as a warning or reminder. The error code will not be cleared until subsequent console reboot during start-up. The condition will persist until faulty hardware is repaired or replaced.

Remedy

Check 40 pin cable and connections between Fitcore board and Command Center. Replace damaged cable.

9.33: Error 705

Cause

Exceed Max RMS (Root Mean Square) current.

Remedy
  • Turn treadmill off, then on.
  • If unit does not recover ensure striding belt / deck are not worn. If they are, replace them.
  • Ensure nothing is causing the drive system to stall.
  • If no stall condition or striding belt / deck issues present, replace the PTC (Premium Treadmill Controller).

9.38: Error 710

Bus Dump Power RPM to Stop.

Cause

Drive motor disabled, must come to stop before resuming.

Remedy

Turn treadmill off, then on.

If error persists, perform the following guidelines:

  • If reboot does not clear issue ensure the bus dump resistor is connected. Connect resistor if it is not connected.
  • If bus dump resistor is connected and issue is repeatable, replace the bus dump resistor and the PTC (Premium Treadmill Controller).

9.39: Error 711

Cause

Drive motor disabled, must come to stop before resuming.

  • Ensure workout is not being done that pushes the striding belt in to a frequent forward direction.
  • If issue persists, replace the bus dump resistor and the PTC (Premium Treadmill Controller).

Remedy
  • Over speed or under speed.
  • Turn treadmill off, then on. If reboot does not clear issue ensure motor encoder cable is connected properly.
  • May need more belt break-in.
  • If cable connected properly, replace the PTC.

Premium Treadmill Controller, The PTC is the lower control board that is the brains behind treadmill operation.

12.32: PWM

Pulse Width Modulation - A circuit board used to control the speed of motors.

12.33: QR Code

Quick Response Code - A type of matrix barcode for tracking information in a supply chain.

12.34: RCB

Resistance Control Board - Inputs power from generator and converts it to voltages needed to run the electronics and apply braking force. Additionally, the RCB tracks user’s exercising speed by interpreting speed from the generator output. The RCB bidirectionally communicates with the display to accept user settings and to feed the display with usage information such as expended calories.

12.35: Reed Switch, Reed Sensor

An electronic device that senses a magnet passing by and closes a switch. This opening and closing of the switch can be counted by the console. This is used to measure RPM's of a crank or flywheel.

12.36: RFID

Radio Frequency Identification - Form of wireless communication that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the radio frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object, animal or person.

12.37: RPM

Revolution Per Minute - A unit measure of how fast an object spins around a fixed axis.

System Interface Board

12.40: Telemetry
