Caution: Use a drop cloth under the tank when filling to avoid staining floor or carpet.
  • Remove yellow plug only for filling.
  • Fill with adjuster handle at level 10 only.
  • Do not fill past the calibration mark as indicated on the tank level sticker or water spillage can occur.
  • Once filling is complete, hand tighten tank plug into place.
Warning: Do not insert fingers into tank!
  1. Filling requires a large bucket (not supplied) and the Fluid Rower Siphon (included). Filling will take approximately 8 liters of water.
  2. Unscrew the right tank plug on tank back and insert the flexible tube into the rear of the tank while keeping the rigid hose in the bucket.
Note: The siphon tube may be impeded by one of the impeller blades. Use the siphon only to push the impeller down slightly.
Note: Where water quality is known to be poor, Life Fitness recommends the use of distilled water.
  3. Move the adjuster handle to level 10, and begin filling. Do not fill past the calibration mark indicated on the tank!
Note: The siphon valve must be closed to allow siphoning action to occur.
Note: Placing the bucket in an elevated position will allow the siphon to continually pump water into the tank.
Note: Opening the siphon valve will stop the pumping action. Use this feature to avoid water spillage when nearing filling completion.
  4. Once filling is complete (to the proper calibration level as indicated on the tank), follow water treatment schedule as shown.

3.4: Changing Resistance Level

Changing resistance on your UpperCycle GX Trainer is simple. The level of resistance is determined by the level indicator located on the side of the tank. Level one indicates lightest resistance, level twenty represents heaviest resistance. The tank’s variable fluid resistance technology ensures an instant catch and constant resistance throughout the pedaling.

Be sure to set the level +/- buttons on the console to match the resistance setting on the fluid tank lever for accurate readings. Allow three to four seconds after adjusting resistance handle for the correct resistance level to be achieved.

3.5: Start Cranking

  1. Stand on the foot plates with feet shoulder width apart (feet, hips and shoulders should be square to the machine).
  2. Grip ergonomic handles comfortably and commence rotating the cranks forward or backward.
  3. Stand close enough so that when either arm is at its furthest point away from you, your arm is comfortably extended and your shoulders are still square.
  4. If you are seeking a ‘full body’ workout, try applying pressure from your hips and feet to engage a fully integrated crank.
  5. To stop the crank action, gradually slow motion and apply tension in the opposite direction.

Chapter 4: Maintenance

All preventive maintenance activities must be performed on a regular basis. Performing routine preventive maintenance actions can aid in providing safe, trouble-free operation of all Life Fitness equipment.

Life Fitness is not responsible for performing regular inspection and maintenance actions for your machines. Instruct all personnel in equipment inspection and maintenance actions and also in accident reporting and recording. Life Fitness representatives are available to answer any questions that you may have.

UpperCycle GX Trainer Daily Keep your UpperCycle GX Trainer in a dry, clean climate controlled environment at room temperature.
UpperCycle GX Trainer Weekly Periodically clean your machine with disinfectant, applied using a lint free cloth.
UpperCycle GX Trainer Monthly Inspect and tighten any loose hardware.

PK Belt Yearly Check your PK belt every 12 months for signs of slippage. Adjust/tighten as required.

4.2: Water Treatment Procedure

Add one Water Treatment Tablet per full tank.
Note: The amount of water treatment can vary widely depending on the unit’s location and exposure to sunlight. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE OTHER TREATMENT TABLETS OTHER THAN THOSE SUPPLIED WITH YOUR UNIT.

The unit includes Water Treatment Tablets, which is sufficient for several years of water treatment. Treat when water becomes discolored or shows signs of Algae/Bacterial growth. To purchase additional Water Treatment Tablets, contact Customer Service.

4.3: Long Term Water Treatment

Do not use any water treatment other than the tablets supplied with this unit. For replacement tablets, contact Customer Service. Water treatment schedules for the UpperCycle GX Trainer will vary according to the fluid tanks exposure to sunlight, but expect 8-12 months near a bright, sunlit window and 2 years or more for a darker location. At the point of finding the water slightly cloudy, add a chlorine Tablet.

Caution: It is recommended that a drop cloth be used under the fluid tank whenever the tank is open for water treatment.
Caution: Do not fill past the calibration mark as indicated on the tank level sticker or water spillage can occur.

Chapter 5: Troubleshooting

5.1: Console

Fault Solution
The computer screen is erratic and illuminates, but does not register with movement. It is possible that there is a loose connection. Check that the computer lead is connected properly to the unit. If connected properly check sensor gap. Contact your local dealer if this fails to address the problem.
The computer does not illuminate after battery installation. Reinstall batteries in correct position and try again. If the LCD screen fails to illuminate, try rotating the batteries slightly in the computer. If this fails, contact your local dealer.
The computer display is erratic or slow while displaying RPM. The gap between the sensor and the magnetic ring is too wide. Remove inspection plate to check sensor gap and confirm that the magnetic ring is not wobbly or loose. The sensor bracket can be bent slightly to bring the reed switch closer to the magnetic ring.

5.2: Mechanical

Fault Solution
The water tank appears cloudy or tank water has changed color.
  • Check to see that your unit has not been positioned in direct sunlight as this can impact the water quality.
  • Your tank requires a water treatment every 12-24 months. To treat the water, refer to the section in this manual called Water Treatment Procedure.
  • Change unit location to reduce direct exposure to sunlight. Add water treatment or change tank water as directed in the water treatment section of this manual. Consider using distilled water to refill tank.
I want to drain the fluid tank on my UpperCycle GX Trainer . It is recommended to take your unit outdoors, open the fill plug, and lay unit on its side to facilitate draining process. If draining indoors, a container capable of holding 8 litres of water will be required.
When I am training the pedals are slipping.

It is likely your PK tank belt requires tightening.

To do this, remove the large inspection plate on opposite side of tank and check belt tension. For details on belt tightening, please refer to our website at www.lifefitness.com

One of the handles is loose and cannot be re-tightened. It is possible that the arm threads have become stripped. Contact your local dealer for replacement. Then check weekly as recommended.
